The Structured Products and UHNW Solutions role is a double-hatted function that supports (i) the delivery of structured products across the US WPB client continuum; and (ii) the delivery of capital markets solutions to the UHNW segment. These include both domestic and offshore clients of US WPB. The role sits in the US WPB Investments and Wealth Solutions (IWS) group. The role-holder will be expected to demonstrate deep knowledge of structured products and capital markets products, as well as a strong understanding of the UHNW segment, in particular as it relates to capital markets needs and solutions. The position also requires knowledge of the breadth of the Private Banking and Wealth product offering, building and leveraging networks and relationships with the global IWS team and others. Through these relationships and product subject matter expertise, the individual’s key objectives will be to (i) drive net sales of structured product offerings and increased penetration as a proportion of overall assets; (ii) provide capital markets solutions for UHNW clients with often complex needs, collaborating with GBM and other functions as required. The individual will be expected to understand the different marketing and issuance regulations for both U.S. domestic investors and non U.S. offshore investors, and to manage all aspects of structured product investment offerings as well as other capital market strategies offered by the bank. The role combines both internal wholesaling component and client-facing activity. This position is a key enabler for Global Private Banking’s Grow UHNW and Deliver World Class Products strategic pillars.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Support Relationship Managers (RM, Investment Counselors (IC) and, where needed, Financial Consultants (FCs) across the existing structured product offering
- Develop structured product trade ideas and themes (including through observation of market and economic trends) for ICs / RMs to market to suitable and eligible clients. Work with ICs to articulate the structured products offering to clients and to structure and price client trades
- Present structured product trade ideas and investment narratives at RM/IC/FC sales meetings. Work with internal functions to design and deliver product training to client-facing colleagues as required
- Collaborate with US IWS product specialists covering other asset classes to execute cross-product solutions where opportunities arise
- Spearhead new structured product launches initiatives, partnering with Product Development team on business case, approval, delivery and governance. Ensure products are in compliance with regulations and internal policy
- Grow structured products revenue and net sales and increase participation and penetration across segments
- Ensure depth and competitiveness of US WPB’s structured products shelf, leveraging knowledge of market offerings and trends
- Own the structured products Critical Business Service governance process
- Support the WPB UHNW strategic initiative by showcasing GBM capabilities to sophisticated UHNW clients and Family Offices
- Work closely with GBM to design and deliver complex capital markets solutions for UHNW clients
- Leverage relationships and expertise across IWS and WPB to create innovative UHNW solutions and overcome bottlenecks
- Develop relationships with third party vendors to enhance the US WPB product capabilities
- As part of the broader Private Bank and the US IWS team, work in a collaborative manner with other relevant product specialists locally and globally, driving synergies and executing product initiatives together. Plug into global IWS Structured Products team for product pipeline and consistency of offerings
- Given the nature of the role, previous experience in structured products offerings, understanding UHNW / Family Office needs, delivery of capital market solutions for this segment, and asset raising –all in a Private Banking environment – is key to success
Employment eligibility to work with HSBC in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions
- Deep knowledge and understanding of structured products, capital market products and UHNW client segment. Strong awareness of financial market and economic trends
- Proven experience of designing and delivering structured product solutions, and building a strong structured products business evidenced through increased sales, revenue and penetration
- Knowledge of industry structured products shelf and trends
- Experience of working with and providing capital markets solutions for UHNW / FO clients highly preferred
- Good understanding of the private banking business, knowledgeable of large private bank matrix organization
- Strong risk & control mindset to ensure products are designed and offered in a compliant and safe manner, respecting internal policies and with client needs and outcomes front of mind
- Strong oral and presentation skills in dealing with internal partners, clients, and providers
- Ability to develop trusted and fruitful relationship with internal customers. Experience interacting with internal stakeholders, e.g., Operations, Legal and Risk
- Relevant experience in a delivering asset management solutions
- University degree, preferably in Finance / Economics or other related field
- FINRA Series 7 & 63
- MBA or CFA is preferred
