Job description
The role is within the US eChannels team in Commercial Banking (CMB) IT.  The successful canddidate will be part of an IT team supporting the global HSBCnet application.  The engineer will work in concert with other team members to design, develop, implement and support HSBCnet utilizing Cobol, DB2 on the mainframe following HSBC Standards and practices for development of software.  The candidate must have experience in working with teams across the globe to deliver techncial solutions and be able to contribute to all phases of the development life cycle with primary responsibility being writing or reviewing well designed, testable, efficient code, written to spec and sufficently unit tested.  Candidate must follow all standards for preparing releases of software components to production as well as provide production support.  Individual must be self motivated, collaborative and able to work independently and with a global team to solve technical issues.
 
The Development Engineering job is responsible for leading in developing the most appropriate and secure Technology solutions using iterative software   development/programming in line with the solution design, to meet customer needs, ensuring continuous improvement.
 
This role will carry out some or all of the following activities:
 
Designs and engineer software with the customer/user experience as a key objective.
  • Work within a feature team to engineer software, scripts and tools to enable the delivery of bank’s products and services.
  • Design, develop and deploy applications capable of meeting the anticipated load, performance, availability, security and resilience requirements.
  • Design and develop software with a focus on automation of build, testing and deployment process on all environments to minimize variation and ensure predictable high quality code and data.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant controls and standards including relevant Service Management Standard. Ensure high data quality exists in Service Management systems of record.
  • Provide support in identification and resolution of all incidents associated with the IT service, as directed by leadership of the DevOps team.
  • Ensure service resilience, service sustainability and recovery time objectives are met for all the software solutions delivered.
  • Responsible for automating the continuous integration / continuous delivery pipeline within a DevOps Product/Service team driving a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Keep up to date and have expertise on current tools, technologies and areas like cyber security and regulations pertaining to aspects like data privacy, consent, data residency etc. that are applicable
Requirements
  • University graduate (preferable in IT) followed by at least 5+ years of professional experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience with commercial banking and specifically eChannel systems
  • Ability to work and adapt to a fast paced and changeable environment.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to multitask
  • Able to achieve excellence under time and stress pressure
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Thorough understanding of computer system development
