Overview of Real Assets & Structured Finance:
The Real Assets & Structured Finance Group (RAF), comprised of Infrastructure Finance, Export & Asset Finance, and Real Estate Finance, provides a full suite of financing solutions to corporates and financial sponsors in the sub sectors of Infrastructure (airports, roads, ports, rail, PPP, digital infra, core plus), Telecoms, Real Estate, Logistics, Support Services, Power & Utilities & Renewables (PURE) and Oil & Gas (upstream, midstream & downstream). The team provides a central point for clients to access product agnostic advice on debt advisory, financing / distribution and capital markets, in coordination with our coverage, debt capital markets, M&A and sector teams within Global Banking. RAF consists of over 185 employees located in 15 countries with key hubs in London, Hong Kong, New York and Dubai. Each hub is supported by a pool of Analysts and Associates who work across all areas of the group; the London pool features approximately 20 bankers.

Job Purpose:
The Infrastructure Finance team in EMEA comprises of staff on the ground in London, Dubai and Riyadh. 
The team is seeking a mid to senior level Associate Director, based in London, with experience primarily in European infrastructure & PURE transactions.
The Associate Director would be delivering in-depth origination, structuring and execution across all sub-sectors of ‘event-driven’ financing transactions across a diverse range of products including lending / distribution, capital markets, M&A and debt & ratings advisory.

Principal Responsibilities:
•    Ability to lead, structure, underwrite and execute European infrastructure & PURE financing transactions across the capital stack including greenfield, brownfield, holdco, midco debt/structuring, including acquisition financing
•    Using sector and debt advisory / structuring expertise to assist in M&A and other event situations (buy/sell-side roles, deal contingent hedging, debt capital markets) for infrastructure & PURE assets
•    Clients include utilities, developers, pension & infrastructure funds and private equity investors
•    Review and negotiate legal documents with internal & external counsel and clients to ensure that financial terms, liabilities and representations are favorable to HSBC to close new transactions
•    Assess project level due diligence including relevant technical, engineering and market studies
•    Lead credit assessment on transactions and oversee HSBC internal credit approval processes
•    Effective collaboration across multi-functional teams to deliver HSBC universal banking product range to clients
•    Share market trends, knowledge and ideas with the team and develop junior resource to drive excellence and perform to the highest standards
•    Provide insight & analysis to aid the existing portfolio management team

•    Undertake all required activities as directed by line manager or as agreed in annual objectives in support of the Global Banking business
•    Uphold the highest level of integrity and act as a role model for all HSBC values and business principles

Requirements

•    Over 5- 6 years’ experience across European infrastructure & PURE origination, underwriting, execution and distribution
•    Track record in managing the delivery of infrastructure and PURE financing to a range of clients. Experience in digital infrastructure (telecoms, fibre) is an asset.
•    Strong knowledge of capital markets, corporate finance and transaction banking products
•    Familiarity with rating agency methodologies and scorecards would be an asset.
•    Experience with loan distribution and institutional placement / arranging is an asset.
•    Prior debt advisory experience is an asset but not required.
•    Strong referencing amongst the infrastructure & PURE industry investor community (utilities, developers and financial investors)
•    Advanced analytical & presentational skills, including leading financial modelling & stress analyses and knowledge of Excel/PowerPoint
•    Expert verbal & written communication, negotiation & interpersonal skills
•    Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
•    Deep understanding of risk management & credit mitigants in the infrastructure & PURE sectors
•    Business / Finance related degree such as a B.Com or equivalent, CFA or MBA qualification is an asset.
