The role is a part of the CCO team within Asset Management, Bangalore. The team has the mandate to oversee the holistic end to end health of the Control environment in addition to providing a forward looking view on risks and controls for the AM Bangalore entity. The team supports the risk/control owners in proactive management of risks by applying innovative and forward thinking solutions. The team will have country/region/global deliverable as follows:

  • Maintaining oversight/providing support to risk and controls owners on the entity risks and control including RCAs, control monitoring, manage issues/incidents etc and similar tasks for the global functions operating from AM Bangalore.
  • Support the global AM locations on key deliverables such as reporting/preparation of RMM packs, provide support to global AM CCO by ensuring timely and accurate MI on data quality, tracking group initiatives across AM offices, sharing best practices across regions etc.
  • Ensuring we are on top of our BAU deliverables across AM.  This includes ensuring we keep Helios up to date, having an ‘early warning’ methodology in place to avoid Helios data quality (DQ) exceptions and ensuring and DQ exceptions are dealt with promptly.  It would also include tracking audit issues to ensure actions are addressed on time and not allowed to go overdue etc.
  • Supporting the AM locations in Global network markets (primarily in Asia Pacific – HK and Singapore) with their BAU activities.  This would include maintenance of Helios, performing remote reviews on behalf of the locations (where possible/practical), requesting TPSRs are performed etc. The CCO GTOM is in the process of being implemented and hence the role is expected to evolve as the implementation progresses.
  • Innovate and participate in automation initiatives to bring in efficiency and scale to CCO deliveries.
  • Identify, suggest and implement automation use cases in AM CCO deliveries for offshored processes.

What you’ll do: (List out Key Responsibilities):

Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas

Drive effective design of operational controls by

  • Working with the businesses (principally AM) and Operations to review and critique front-to-back processes and controls
  • Ensuring risk and control standards (including the CCO Control Design Principles) are incorporated in the design of new processe

Drive effective operation of control measures by :-

  • Monitoring and analysing control measures to form opinions on the control environment
  • Ensuring effective and efficient balance of control effectiveness measures (including Risk & Control Assessments, Key Risk Indicators, test approaches, reviews, audits and judgment based attestations)
  • Analysing root cause of incidents and errors

Identify and eliminate systemic issues in the control environment by:-

  • Performing risk assessment deep dives initiated by trigger events such as internal and external incidents

Identify emerging risks and potential issues by:-

•   Developing indicators that, for instance, predict the impact of known risk triggers Applying knowledge of control failings in other operational processes, locations etc. to enable AM Operations to identify and address similar

Customers / Stakeholders

Build effective relationships with key stakeholders across AM Operations and AM and leverage these relationships to:

  • Ensure that controls advice and guidance from CCO is welcomed and acted upon by stakeholders
  • Ensure that change activity (such as process, operating model and system changes) incorporates control requirements from the initial design onwards.
  • Ensure control remediation activities are robust, complete and sustainable.
  • Provide effective and insightful challenge
  • Ensure adherence to the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) and operational risk policies

Build effective relationships with key stakeholders within 2nd line of defence and Operational Risk and leverage these relationships to:

  • Contribute to the deployment of operational risk policy and framework in AM Operations.

Operational Effectiveness and Controls:

Ensure that AM Operations has a robust control environment and a strong risk culture through:

  • Ensuring Control Owners within AM Operations fully understand their responsibilities and are motivated and focussed on executing these responsibilities on a daily basis
  • Working with Control Owners to ensure compliance with the risk policies and control standards

Apply and critique the definition and application of policies, control standards and procedures by:

  • Working with all lines of defence to influence the definition of group policies and control standards
  • Ensuring the control framework enforces policy standards

Typical Targets and Measures:

  • Evidence of robust and effective controls
  • Evidence of well-managed control environment (e.g. issues and actions are raised in a timely manner and actively managed)
  • Development of best practice, standard tools and improvements to the Risk Management Framework

Management of Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)

  • Continually assess the risks related to the Business Service, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, organisation change and the impact of new technology.
  • Consistently display positive leadership behaviours related to the management and mitigation of risk, including notification and escalation of any concerns and ensuring timely action in relation to points raised by audit and external regulators.
  • Continually support HSBC's approach to conduct, which is designed to ensure we deliver fair outcomes for our customers and do not disrupt the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets. 
  • Maintain awareness of operational risk and minimise the likelihood of it occurring, including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting

  • Ensures that HSBC internal control standards are met, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Knowledge

  • Clear understanding of operational risk and how it is managed
  • Knowledge of large scale business processes (within banking or other industries) and the risks inherent in these processes

  • Detailed understanding of AM Operations and the regulatory environment in which it operates.

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent)

Experience

  • Operating effectively in a complex, global organization. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
