HSBC’s Advisory / M&A practice focuses on cross-border transactions and related advisory events for corporate and institutional clients around the world. This advice covers mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, divestitures, corporate restructuring, stock exchange listing, and privatization. Working closely with colleagues across Global Banking and Global Markets, Advisory / M&A bankers offer their knowledge and expertise to play an important and trusted role in shaping and executing a company’s strategy.  Successful candidates  need to have a real passion for a career in this area, coupled with strong business acumen and commercial sense. 
 
The Position
The analyst will be a key member of the M&A team and will assist in origination and execution efforts. The candidate will have strong analytical and communication skills, strong intellectual curiosity, and demonstrate the ability to make immediate contributions across various stages of transactions. The analyst will report to the Staffer of the M&A team. Key responsibilities include:
  • Actively participate in the development of marketing pitches and transaction executions across sectors
  • Perform detailed sector and company research
  • Conduct fundamental industry research and quantitative analyses, and attend client presentations as required
  • Develop company valuations and create/analyze financial models
  • Conduct financial, comparative and pro forma analyses
  • Interact with clients and various levels of management
  • Act as a resource for and an integral member of the M&A team
  • Play an important role in the further development of the M&A team
Requirements
Qualifications
  • Bachelors’ degree from a leading university and exceptional academic performance
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial modeling, valuation, and execution
  • A strong understanding of the financial markets and economics
  • Highest level of integrity and judgment
  • Commitment to a collaborative / team-based environment
  • Exceptional level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to quickly learn new IT applications
  • Prior investment banking experience preferred
  • A second language is advantageous, but not essential
